Category C and CE
With a category C1, C or CE lorry licence you may drive vehicles over 3,500 kg MAM. Whether you also need the certificate of professional competence (CAP) depends on whether you drive the lorry professionally. All information reflects the rules that apply in the Walloon Region (and therefore also in Eupen).
Which category may I drive?

If you pass the category C exam without CAP before your 21st birthday, you first receive a C1 licence.
Requirements: a valid category B licence (for CE a category C licence) and a passed medical examination (valid for 5 years). Employees in Belgium go to their occupational health service (for example Liantis or Securex). Self-employed persons and people working abroad first see an ophthalmologist and then take the certificate to the health department.
Theory
Category C without CAP
A theory exam with 50 questions; pass mark 41 out of 50 points.
Category C with CAP (professional driver)
A theory exam in four parts. The first two parts can be taken without an appointment at the AutoSécurité licence office. An appointment is required for the third and fourth parts, which is usually possible within a week.
Category CE
There is no theory exam.
We offer a preparation course. It is not compulsory. You can also prepare on your own with training material.
Practical training
For C, C with CAP and CE, at least 8 lessons at an approved driving school are required in each case. The practical exam can then be taken. After two consecutive failed exams, at least 4 additional lessons are compulsory.

The manoeuvres include reversing in a straight line, reversing to a loading bay and reversing into a garage. If the manoeuvre part (or, with CAP, the initial qualification) is failed, the public road part does not take place. Passed exam parts remain valid for 1 year without CAP and 3 years with CAP.
Code 95: with CAP, code 95 is entered on the licence. To keep it, 35 hours of further training are required every 5 years.
Funding
Residents of the German-speaking Community can receive a subsidy of up to 30 % of the cost of C or CE training through the BRAWO project. We are happy to help you fill in the applications.
Our training
We train on a DAF XF 410 with manual gearbox. For category CE a centre-axle trailer is added.
