Category B+E
With a category BE licence you may tow a heavy trailer over 750 kg MAM with a category B vehicle (trailer up to 3,500 kg, combination up to 12,000 kg). All information reflects the rules that apply in the Walloon Region (and therefore also in Eupen).
BE or code 96?
| Licence | Permitted |
| B | Trailer up to 750 kg, or a heavier trailer if the combination has a total MAM of no more than 3,500 kg |
| B + code 96 | Combination over 3,500 kg up to a maximum of 4,250 kg MAM |
| BE | Trailer over 750 kg up to 3,500 kg, combination up to 12,000 kg MAM |
The same training and exam procedure apply to code 96 and BE.
Theory
There is no theory exam. You need a valid category B licence and must be at least 18 years old.
Practical training
Training at the driving school
At least 8 lessons at an approved driving school are required. The practical exam can then be taken.
With a provisional licence
Alternatively, you can apply for a provisional licence (valid for 12 months, not extendable) with one or two supervisors. The supervisor must be at least 24 years old and have held a BE licence or B with code 96 for at least 6 years. After two failed exams, at least 4 lessons at an approved driving school are compulsory.
The practical exam
The practical exam consists of two parts:
- Private ground with 6 manoeuvres: checks before driving, reversing in a straight line, reversing around a corner, parking along the kerb, reversing to a loading bay, and uncoupling and coupling the trailer
- Public roads with an exam drive of at least 25 minutes
If the manoeuvre part is failed, the public road part does not take place. A passed manoeuvre part remains valid for 1 year. During this time, only the public road part needs to be retaken.
Our training
Our training takes place with a Dacia Duster and a trailer. This combination allows trouble-free training even for beginners, as the trailer is no wider than the towing vehicle.
Lessons are given in German and French.
