Category AM

With a category AM licence you may ride mopeds and scooters up to 50 cc (or 4 kW electric) with a top speed of 45 km/h. This also applies to three-wheeled mopeds and light quadricycles (“microcars”). Holders of a category B licence may also drive these vehicles.

Theory

The theory exam can be taken from the age of 15 years and 9 months.

• 40 questions
• Pass mark: 33 out of 40 points
• A pass is valid for 3 years

Preparation does not have to take place with the driving school. Students can also prepare on their own with a textbook. Our theory course covers categories B, A, AM and G. You can book it here.

Practical training

There is no provisional licence for category AM. Practical training takes place exclusively at an approved driving school:

• at least 4 lessons, part of them in traffic
• afterwards you receive the certificate of practical training (valid for 3 years)

The practical exam

The practical exam can be taken at the earliest on your 16th birthday. It takes place at AutoSécurité on private ground and, for two-wheelers, consists of four manoeuvres:

• slalom
• figure of eight
• walking pace riding
• emergency braking

An approved helmet is compulsory for the exam. Bring, among other things, your identity card, proof of passing the theory exam and the driving school certificate.
