A category B driving licence<\/strong> is required to drive a category B vehicle ( >3500kg HzGM or max. 8 persons plus driver ).<\/p>\n

\n

Theory<\/h1>\n

The minimum age for taking the theoretical driving test is 17 years.
\nThe current theoretical driving test consists of 50 questions, which are divided into serious and normal errors.
\nNormal errors count 1 error point
\nSerious faults count 5 fault points
\nThe 50 questions are to be answered without exceeding 9 demerit points.
\nWhat is a serious mistake?
\n– speeding
\n– rule violation 3. and 4th degree (example: running a red light, driving over a solid white line, making a U-turn on the highway, etc.)
\nThe preparation for this theoretical driving test can be done autodidactically with a driving school book or a preparation course in the driving school is attended.
\nAttendance at this course is not mandatory.
\nHowever, if the candidate has failed the theory test 2 times, attendance at a theory course at an approved driving school is mandatory.
\nThis is after 2 unsuccessful attempts to pass the exam; therefore, the 2nd, 4th, …… Examination require in each case a document, which certifies the attendance of a preparatory course of 12 time hours.<\/p>\n

It should be noted that the first two attempts also include those which may have been taken some time ago (before the current regulations came into force on 1.1.2018). It is therefore possible that attendance at the course is required from the outset, or that it is already necessary after a new attempt, since the first attempt has already been used up in previous years. The blue paper AE013 as a certificate of attendance of the preparatory course only sets the counter to zero after every 2nd examination attempt.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

\n

Practice<\/h1>\n

The practical driving training can take place in different ways:<\/strong><\/p>\n

In principle, there are no compulsory driving lessons in the driving school.
\nIf the training\/testing is done on a vehicle with automatic transmission, the license to be obtained is limited to vehicles with automatic transmission.<\/p>\n

\n

M36<\/strong><\/h2>\n

The candidate may designate one or a maximum of two persons as training companions on the document certifying the passing of the theoretical driving test.
\nThis training companion may only be registered on a training driver’s license in a period of 12 months, must have held his driver’s license for at least 8 years and must not have had his driver’s license revoked in the last 3 years. The driving licence of the trainer must be issued in an EU country and the vehicle used for training must be registered in Belgium (there are only a very limited number of exceptions to this rule).
\nNo person other than the instructor may be in the vehicle during the practice driving lessons.
\nThe accompanying person and the student must have followed 3 hours of pedagogical lessons (“rendez-vous p\u00e9dagogique”\/pedagogical appointment). Only after the date of the course the obligatory 1500 km of the roadbook start. This must be carried with the M36.
\nThe minimum training period is 3 months, the maximum training period is 6 months. This means that the practical driving test can be taken at the earliest 3 months after the date of issue of the training driving licence. (However, the candidate must be 18 years old on the day of the driving test). These 3 months start after the issuance of the training license or after the date of the pedagogical training; whichever is later.

Driving lessons at a driving school are only optional in this model and depend on many personal factors of the learner driver, such as:
\nTime of the training attendant
\nNerves of the training attendant
\nAvailability of a suitable vehicle
\nect….<\/p>\n

If the driving test is to be taken with a vehicle from the driving school, a minimum of 3 double hours must be completed. Here only the pedagogical training of the student would have to be proven and the roadbook would have to be presented.
\nAs of July 1, 2018, passing a risk perception test is a prerequisite for taking the practical exam.<\/p>\n

\n

M18<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Another option for driving training is to complete at least 20 driving hours at an approved driving school. However, the minimum age for this is 18 years.
\nThereafter, the learner driver may apply for the issue of a training licence limited to 18 months, which does not require the accompaniment of a training supervisor. This allows the learner driver to continue practicing independently.
\nHe is free to transport additional persons in the vehicle, but each of the transported persons must have a driving license and must have held it for at least 8 years.
\nHere too it is only possible to take the driving test after 3 months.<\/p>\n

As of 7\/1\/2018, a requirement to obtain an M18 driver’s license:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
– Passed risk perception test <\/span><\/p>\n

– Certificate of aptitude issued by the test centre after passing an aptitude test taken after 20 hours of driving instruction. <\/span><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

\n

All training licences presented here are only valid nationally. These are training licences and therefore not internationally recognised driving licences. Furthermore, it is not permitted to drive with the training licence during the hours of 22:00 – 6:00 on weekends and on the eves of public holidays.<\/h3>\n
\n

Direct access<\/strong><\/h1>\n

The only way to get around the 3 month provisional licence period before taking the driving test is to go straight for the licence.<\/p>\n

Here, the learner driver must complete 30 driving lessons with a recognised driving school and can then take the driving test directly. Here too, the learner driver must have previously passed the risk perception test.<\/p>\n
